What is tajweed and why should I learn it?

Do you know what tajweed is? Tajweed is the rules of reciting the Quran. It’s important to learn tajweed for two reasons: first, it helps to beautify your recitation and second, it helps you understand what you are reading.

The Quran is a holy book to Muslims, and if you want to learn how to read it properly then you should know that there are certain rules called tajweed which need to be followed when reading. Tajweed helps in pronunciation of Quranic Arabic, and also ensures that we pronounce each letter correctly so our recitation can be understood by other Muslim listeners.

Tajweed for beginners – how to recite verses of the Quran correctly?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the best words a Muslim can say are those he utters when prostrating himself, so it is important to recite verses from the Quran correctly.  The Imam, Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Hajjāwī, who was one of the great scholars in Islamic history and author of “al-Wiqayah” – a traditional manual on reciting the Qur’an according to tajweed rules – advised his students: “Learn how to read before you learn how to teach others. Read for yourself first until you reach an age where reading becomes difficult for you or your eyesight weakens.”

The Quran is a gift from Allah to mankind, and it deserves our attention. However, if we are not reciting the verses correctly then what’s the point? Tajweed for beginners will teach you how to recite Quranic passages so they can be understood by all Muslims. It also teaches us about the importance of reading with humility and respect.
